Special Summer Workshops

Kalorama Landscape Workshop

Taught by distinguished artist Martin Kotler, this dynamic workshop takes place ‘en plein air’ in the courtyards, alleys, and quiet side streets of the Kalorama neighborhood. With individual critiques and afternoon discussions, this workshop will stress developing a modern day composition, ways of seeing architecture, and the language of paint in a modern day cityscape. This will be a class based on individual needs and concerns for contemporary artists. Concentration will be placed on the poetry of light, shadow, time and place, and characteristics of the urban landscape. Medium of the artists choice may be used (oil painting, watercolor, drawing, etc).

Teen Workshop: Drawing and Painting Immersion
This two week intensive drawing and painting workshop for teens will explore working from direct observation of dynamic and changing still life subjects. Students will have hands on learning with a variety of media such as charcoal, pencil, ink, collage and acrylic paint while investigating line, value, space and color. This course is suitable for beginning and experienced students who wish to deepen their involvement in art outside of their normal school setting. We look forward to helping budding artists further develop their talents.

A serious, but fun atmosphere where teens are able to spend creative time during their off summer month and make friends with others their age who have similar interests.
